Hannah Willis: Selfie Project

For the pictures I had creative control over, I decided to choose growth as my overall theme. So, with the plant still being behind me and my painting of this colorful Murakami flower, represents my personality and how I perceive life. We decide to get up each day to experience life, regardless of the hues it brings, we have to grow from every experience we face.
Since my overall theme was growth, I included images of me as a kid to the right with some lighting to display my face. Then, I had two plants one being my a pothos plant and the other is unknown. The physical pictures to the right of me, and the plants to the left of me can represent a double entendre. As you can see my actual growth with your eyes with the photos of me as kid while looking at the plants to the left as a metaphor of internal growth.
This is me in August of 2021 as a 10th grader.

Three selfies Eppo van Brenk

My first time going to Wooster

This my most recent selfie that was good enough to submit. My other selfies are quite blurred. This selfie is made in the shuttle bus from Cleveland to Wooster. This was underway to my first time here at Wooster. I like to make myself from a bird’s eye view, in that way I can make the position unique. Also, I don’t like to make a selfie direct from my face, because that feels a little to direct and in your face. It is kind of the same way with someone tilting their head in a selfie.

‘ Christmas gift’

This is a selfie taken by my mother in 2019. It was taken during the Dutch version of Christmas. I got this t-shirt as a gift from ‘Sinterklaas’ (that is the Dutch version of Santa Claus). The t-shirt is merchandise from a youtuber I used to watch a lot at the time. They made an amazon system in Minecraft and called it ‘Sahara’. I cropped my father, who was in the bottom right corner sitting on the floor, out of the photo.  In doing so I also got the rules of thirds right.

Paragliding in the Alps

This a picture of me this summer in the alps of Austria. We were there for 5 days and decided to do all kinds of things there. One of these things was paragliding, I was about a mile in the air. You can see the other paraglider in the picture and that one is the one where my little brother sits in. This picture represents me good in a few different ways. Firstly, the location, I love travelling and this was taken in Austria. So, the travelling aspect of me is represented that way. Secondly, the way the photo is taken, it is again from a bird’s eye view, like my most recent selfie. I especially like it in this photo, because you can so much of the valley I was gliding over. The last aspect, which represents me the most, is the thrill aspect of me. I really enjoy doing thrilling things, like riding rollercoasters, climbing trees or mountains and diving from cliffs. That’s why I think this picture represents me really good.
